Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Without love, benevolence becomes egotism.” I couldn’t agree more, because that is exactly what Jesus said in Matthew 6:1-4.

Benevolence must always be done out of love and our desire to help others, not to be seen of men. While we can experience feelings of euphoria as we see people’s lives changed, we must never seek our own glorification, but the glorification of God.  This brings to mind 1 Corinthians 13:3, “And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.”
